What is a photovoltaic inverter. What is it for. How does it work.

A photovoltaic inverter is a device that converts the direct current (DC) produced by solar panels into alternating current (AC), and alternating current is the form of energy that powers our everyday home and business lives.

Essentially, without the inverter, the solar energy produced by the panels is unusable.
Here a photovoltaic inverter works, there are four phases that we can distinguish:

  1. Solar panels generate energy in the form of direct current (DC), this is acquired by the inverter to start the conversion process.
  2. The inverter transforms the direct current (DC) produced by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) so that it can be used by domestic, commercial or industrial devices.
  3. Once converted to alternating current (AC), the inverter “cleans” the energy, eliminating any fluctuations that could make the energy less efficient or potentially harmful to the electrical devices it powers.
  4. Only at this point is the energy ready to be used: the inverter distributes it to the home or business network, and the energy not used immediately stores it in batteries to be used at a later time.
